We have a few of these in my garden here in South Africa and I absolutely love them. I know in other countries these are commonly kept as exotic pets and are apparently very tame and fascinatingly enjoy human attention but here I have them wild and I prefer it that way. I love to go out at night time and see them eating and nibbling on all the plants and grass outside. They are truly amazing animals and I love to have them here in my garden. Here in South Africa we have the African Giant Snail and they are huge. On average they are about 20cm long. We take species care not to kill them by stepping on them or drive over them and if we spot one we immediately move it to a safe place. This might not be interpreted as keeping snakes in captivity but I have great respect for my snails outside and I would be very sad if they were to disappear. They are great animals to have in your garden and really don't destroy as plants like people think they do. They are great creatures to have and I am so happy to have them in a natural setting where I can really appreciate them for what they are. A great animal to have in your garden and one of the strangest animals in the world. A dinosaur of the invertebrate world.
