These tarantulas are not the best choice for young children. They tend to dislike being handled, and almost never make themselves visible. They love to burrow and when they do come out it is for short times. On the flipside, like any spider, they are very beautiful, and add a great addition to any collection of vertabrates for display. Keeping it isn't too hard, just provide prey and water and a lot of substrate for burrowing. These spiders are very wuick to launch their hairs at you, so DO NOT corner it. Provide a large terranium with plenty of hiding places and a large water dish. They are less hostile when you have a larger tank. They are very, very defensive of their territory, and will bite if handled improperly.
