Digger! Hermit Crab

I came across hermit crabs one summer while pet sitting for my nephew. I instant fell for their interesting habits. These guys love to dig and while you have to clean their habitats quite frequently you can provide them with 'toys' to rearrange and have quite a bit of fun with them. Hermie can be fun to show off and handle when friends come over and since he gets bored some times I let him wander the tiled kitchen and dining room under the supervision of my nephew.

Honestly, they don't really do much and their easy to care for but it's fun to have them in the house. As they grow you must give them larger shells to climb into. Also, although it is kind of gross they shed their skins when they move homes. ??The crab we had the longest, which I’m reviewing here, Hermie was sort of an aggressive beast and we suspect that he ate his mates. We purchased two additional crabs to live with him and they were much smaller. They quickly disappeared and all we found was their shells. While cleaning the substrate I did come across what appeared to be a claw.
