Excellent first pony for children

My mom kept show horses when I was younger and the first pony I remember was a beautiful chestnut mare called Jade, who my mom bought to teach me about riding and caring for horses.
As a welsh pony, she was an ideal starter pony for a child, although as she was young and had only just been trained she was still very flighty and misbehaved frequently. Once she even bolted when I was riding her, which was very scary for a nine year old girl!
But when I had my mom to keep her under control, she was excellent for rides in the countryside and learning to care for a pony. She was very hardy in the cold weather and didn't need a horse blanket as she had a very thick winter coat. But strangely enough, her summer coat was chestnut roan, apparently a very rare coloring.
We had to sell Jade after a year because we didn't have the time to exercise her and I was very sad to see her go. Even if she was a little young and a bit naughty, she was a lovely first pony for a little girl.
