This unique breed of horse is an absolute pleasure to work with and train. Vlaamperd is Afrikaans and literally translates as “Flemish horse,” the breed was developed in the Western Cape region of South Africa as a cross between various breeds including Friesian, Thoroughbred, Hackney and other stock.

They are generally very elegant and suitable for a variety of purposes, most commonly driving, showing and pleasure riding. I stayed focussed on dressage and liberty work.

I love the breed. As far as temperament goes you will be hard pressed to find a better character. Very sensitive and always willing to give 100% effort, with a great work ethic these horses are just super. In my experience generally sound and healthy.
