I've heard people praising Thoroughbreds on many disciplines, and I guess it really depends on the temperament of the horse, and the rider. Having said that, I am not a Thoroughbred horse-girl. Sombra was young when I got her, 4 years old, and very reactive. After 3 years, she's not settled down either. She really keeps you on your toes! I've tried her with polo but the charged energy of the game around her made her very difficult to handle. She goes well on the trail if you're cantering 90% of the time, and loves running. She really would have been more suited to the track, if it wasn't that the trainer thought she had no potential as a racer.
Her stable partner, a 17 year old Thoroughbred, was almost the same. He took a while to 'wake up' but when he did, man, you really had to know how to tuck and roll!
