The Appaloosa

The most striking and distinguishing feature of the Appaloosa is its spotted coat. A wide range of patterns can be found, but the most common are dark horse with white, snowflake spots, or the white body with a leopard like spotting pattern. But all types and varieties do exist. The rarer coats may be a frost with white speckled markings, or my favorite, which is called the "blanket" pattern, which is a predominantly all white horse with little brown spots on its hind quarters. Another unique quality of these horse is that their hooves are black and white stripped. They range in height from 14 to 15 hands and have eyes that can look into your soul! Appaloosas are good jumpers and do very well in Western Events. They are very easy to get along with, have great temperaments, and make good long trail riders. All in all, a well rounded animal to have around..and "purty" too!
