The Mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana) tree is native to Southeast Asia and produces a sweet / sour, soft fruit. As the fruit is typically available only in the tropical countries in which the tree grows, Mangosteen fruit juice has recently been introduced as a nutritional supplement beverage.
The rind of the Mangosteen fruit contains chemicals known as "xanthones". Xanthones are a class of plant derived nutrients which have strong antioxidant, anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal properties. Mangosteen also contains catechins, compounds which are also found in Green Tea. These may also contribute to possible improvements in blood chemistry, circulation, and nitric oxide levels.
Mangosteen is available in juices, capsules and powders.
