Some naturopathic veterinarians recommend canine dietary supplementation with foods that are rich in antioxidants and Omega-3 fatty acids. Leafy green vegetables like spinach, Brussel sprouts and broccoli are among the highest sources of the antioxidant vitamins C and E. Foods that are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids are certain plants like flax seed, canola oil and walnuts, and cold water, fatty fish like mackerel, lake trout, herring, sardines, albacore tuna and salmon.

A 2012 study of aging Beagles, found that a diet rich in antioxidants improved cognition and helped maintained cognition.
