When a dog or cat has an upset stomach, it can be helpful to see if it's eaten something strange. Opened trash bags, house plants that show signs of being eaten etc., can all be helpful clues to share with your veterinarian.
Obviously this is especially important if you suspect your dog has eaten something toxic or poisonous.
A way to help identify the cause of sudden diarrhea in dogs is to use something called the EASE Method:
- E- Environment - make sure nothing has changed in the environment in the past 3-7 days. Jot down notes.
- A - Attention - pay attention and log any out of the ordinary behavior, even if you are unsure if it could be relevant or not.
- S- Search the surrounding environment and the areas your pet frequents.
- E- Evaluate the situation and decide if you need to seek medical attention or not (diarrhea that last more than 24 hrs, any situation that takes a swift decline)
