What are Glucosamine, Chondroitin and MSM Formulas?
Glucosamine and chondroitin are natural substances found in and around the cells of cartilage (the tough, elastic, fibrous connective tissue found in various parts of the body, such as the joints).
Glucosamine is a form of amino sugar that is believed to inhibit inflammation and stimulate cartilage cell growth. At its interior surface, the mucosal layer of the bladder is covered by a film of mucin, which is secreted by the urothelial cells at the surface of this tissue layer and consists largely of the substances known as glycosaminoglycan (GAG).
Glucosamine is a major building block of proteoglycans. It stimulates cartilage cells to synthesize glycosaminoglycans GAG's (mucopolysaccharides). Glucosamine is also known for its anti-inflammatory properties.
Chondroitin sulfate is part of a large protein molecule (proteoglycan) that provides cartilage with strength and resilience.
MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane) is a natural form of organic sulfur found in the fluid and tissues of all living organisms. It is present in a variety of foods, including most fresh raw fruit and vegetables, milk, meat, seafood and some grains, however MSM is easily lost during moderate food processing. As a supplement, MSM may be helpful in reducing inflammation.
Glucosamine, chondroitin sulfate and MSM products for dogs are available in powders, flavored softchews, liquids and capsules.
Does Glucosamine, Chondroitin and MSM Work For Dog Joint Pain?
A joint supplement he really enjoys taking!
Weimaraners are known for being really susceptible to hip dysplasia, and at the age of 6 or 7, it was getting clear that our dog Jack wasn't getting around as easily as he used to. I started giving him Cosequin chews, and thankfully, it was clear he enjoyed taking them...that's always the first hurdle, right? But after a few days, he seemed to be getting up and down the stairs much more easily and acting more playful again.
The most important trio in supplements for joints
Because it contains both glucosamine and chondroitin - the most popular compounds for joints supplements, but also MSM (some studies show that it is even more imporant than two previous ones), that makes it one of the best among others supplements. I highly recommend this for using daily even If Your dog doesn't have problems with joints yet but it is a breed that is in the risk group (like german shepherd, great dane and many others).
