Dog Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis (OA / degenerative joint disease) is a joint disease where the joint cartilage - the slippery tissue that covers the ends of bones in a joint - breaks down and wears away. This allows bones under the cartilage to rub together, causing pain, swelling and loss of motion of the joint.

Osteoarthritis is the most common kind of dog arthritis, and may affect 20% of dogs. OA is especially common in large and working breed dogs, and in senior dogs.
