Swordtail fish are very hardy fish. That being said they are pretty healthy in almost any environment. However, the tank should be kept at a warm temperature, so you should make precautions to keep the tank warm enough for them. You should change the water at least once a week, but leave around one-half to two-thirds of the old water in the tank when you change it so as to not shock their systems.

Other than that they're very pretty fish, and very cute. I have caught them staring at me while I'm studying at my desk. Their personalities could be described as calm (unless you have another fish in there with them, then they get energetic).

I would suggest one male fish to two female fish. The female swordtail fish will get exhausted by the male fish if you only put one female in there.
