Apple and Orange the Fishes

I got my two silver angelfish when I was very young. They're names were Apple and Orange. They were great fish to have. I enjoyed feeding them and watching them eat. I would sometimes talk to them, and once I even tried to teach them tricks. Like a true scientist, I would tap on the glass before feeding them to see if I could get them to come to the food area when I tapped the glass. It turns out I could. They were very intelligent.

I also enjoyed sticking my pinky in the water, and they'd come and investigate. I liked to think they thought it was a worm and went to try and eat it. I was a silly child.

But they're only fish in the end, and I don't feel the level of affection anywhere near the amount I feel for my cat or dog. And I was sad when they died, but not very sad. If you want a low maintenance creature to care for, go ahead. These are cute, smart pets to have. But they don't really care about you. Or they don't act like they do.
