I loved this fish (poly), it had this beautiful snake-like way of moving through the water and stalking its prey or pellets. Poly loved bloodworm but also ate the occasional pellets or flake. They are predators and will devour anything that can fit into their surprisingly large mouths. The coolest thing about owning a polypterus was the idea of having one of the oldest fish, according to scientists these guys are dinosaurs. Unfortunately one morning i woke up to a fish tank without poly waiting for me to feed him. I searched for days and eventually discovered that poly had jumped out of his tank. So please, if you are going to get a polypterus, make sure you have a good lid on your tank, polypterus are excellent jumpers and can aim at even the smallest gap. They will try to fit through filter pipes and any tight space.
