Kohaku koi

One of my favorite types of koi. Their colour really stands out, especially on high grade kohaku koi with high contrast colours. They grow large and need lots of swimming space. Very sociable fish and will usually eat food from the owners hand. Be careful as adults can be VERY strong and they can knock over large rocks and pumps etc. They tend to shovel through the substrate to find any insects etc to eat. Mine once swallowed a pebble and had to be taken to the vet so make sure you use a suitable substrate. Very nice koi to keep and good for beginners. The picture is of one of my kohaku koi, I believe it is a rare breed with orange and white instead of the traditional red, and also with the gin-rin scales which is the reflective part of the scales.
