My family and I built our Koi pond ourselves, which proved to be a very elaborate and difficult process, but which was well worth the effort for what we created.

The maintenance of the habitat for our Koi was anything but easy, but again was definitely fulfilling for us.

Our Koi were extremely beautiful, and were highly compatible with each other.

The only issues we ever had with our Koi were usually external to the actual fish, for example the issue of large birds and other prey killing them from our pond.

This happened with larger birds of prey, who would swoop down and grab the easily visible colorful fish within our pond, as well as other creatures like racoons.

However, besides that there were other issues with their health, as with all fish, and several of them died inexplicably, but there was never an epidemic of fish rot or anything remotely as difficult to deal with as our experience with Salt Water fish tanks.

Besides these issues, our Koi provided beauty, tranquillity, and peace to our home environment, and were a true pleasure to sit and experience.

The pond also attracted frogs and other harmless wildlife, which created a gorgeous oasis feeling to our backyard.

I would recommend this breed of fish for anyone who is prepared to put in the time and resources to creating what is a truly fulfilling habitat for their pet Koi.
