Beautiful Fish but Expensive to Own

By

A few years ago we bought several koi after building a fish pond off to the side of my patio. Our first several fish were eaten by herons, but we solved that problem by planting a few Japanese maples around the perimeter. After that, the birds stayed away. The first are beautiful, and the whole family enjoys feeding them. They swarm the surface and their scales glitter in the sun; it's really a sight to behold. Unfortunately, as they have become larger they have begun to require more care. They also don't get along very well with other fish.
