Honey Gourami

The honey gourami is my favourite aquarium fish. I first purchased a pair but they looked so beautiful and lively that in less than 1 month I had 10 of them from the pet store. I noticed that they are territorial fish so I had to make a spacious tank to accommodate them.
The most notable fact to consider about the honey gourami is that their colour gives a clear indication of their health and mood. Sometimes, usually in the first weeks, some will look pale or appear to lose colour but once they become comfortable in their environment, they will start to glow with their vibrant colours. At first, the pair I bought was a bit shy and move away in a corner when I used to approach the tank but once they marked their territory, they were so lively taking all the space such that I could admire them continuously for nearly 1 hour.
They are very peaceful and it is very rare to see any sort of fighting going one. Occasionally the male will try to dominate, especially when food is released but nothing to worry about. It is great to see them swimming around when a lettuce leaf is released in the tank. That’s my best moment of admiration everyday.
Also, a piece of advice for those planning to breed this species of fish, take proper care with the water level and temperature.
