Figure 8 Puffer one of few brackish fish

This fish lives best in brackish water (part salt, part fresh) but can be carefully acclimated so that they can live in freshwater and sometimes higher salinity water as well. The healthiest Figure 8 puffers that I ever encountered were in a well balanced brackish tank though.

They are very active and will interact with people. They are very aware of movement within the room where the tank is located and will follow movement. They love live or frozen brine shrimp and blood worms. They will eat flakes but stay much healthier on live and frozen foods.

These are smaller fish and several of the same kind can be kept. This can be very entertaining to watch as they are very active. I kept them in a brackish tank with bumblebee gobies and they did well.
