My dad bought me my very first dwarf gourami many years back for my community tank. Again, it's an ideal beginner's fish.

Very placid, it mixes well in a community tank that doesn't have too many other boisterous fish, although having said that, my gouramis always put up a good fight when competing with my angels for food.

They like lots of hiding places and I recall that my gouramis enjoyed spending time under floating plants.

They have very strikingly beautiful colouration under good lighting, particularly the males.

They also do well on their own, so you don't necessarily need to keep more than one.
