These fish are a little bit expensive for their size. The pet store manager told us it’s because they are very hard to get. I don’t really know why. We bought them because of their color. Especially males. We had 5 of them (2 males and 3 females). Peaceful in general, they don’t really “care” about the other species in the tank (although I have noticed a tiny tension between them and the Plecostomus). Only males fight with each other, and when they do, it’s like watching dancing partners!

When they first got in the tank, they were a little bit scared, and their red color was not as vivid as we thought. But don’t worry. After 10-15 days they start to swim around the aquarium, mostly at the top, always in a group and near the plants. If you have plants floating on the surface of the water, they swim around it. It’s great.

They eat almost anything, and I didn’t notice any special demands on the water temperature. They seem to be healthy, after one year only 1 female died. It jumped over the tank so I suppose that if you want them, you should have a cover.

The pet store guy asked us if we have a big tank. He recommended that these fish have a better chance of surviving in large tank, so if you have a small one, don’t bother. You don’t want to waste 20€!
