A Good Pet but Don't Treat it Like a Fish

If you go into having seahorses with the right attitude and time devotion, they can be wonderful and deeply fascinating pets. While their water conditions are no more difficult than for any other pet, their needs are different than and not compatible with most tropical reef species. Seahorses prefer colder tanks with less flow than most fish can tolerate. They are extremely finicky eaters. They require live food and are not great at catching it. Watch each horse and do not be afraid to hand offer pistol shrimp to reluctant eaters. Create an environment with plenty of vertical places for them to hook their tails on. If you can provide for their specific needs, this is truly a fascinating pet.
