Adaptable and fun to watch

We got our blood parrots from a friend, who used them for decorating wedding tables. Poor guys were really hungry though.

I should say I have never been a big fan of keeping fish in a bowl, because I remember from childhood how messy those cute things could be. But we just gave them another try. Blood parrots actually turned out to be unpretentious and playful, real fun to watch. They eventually learned to recognize us, and generally were quite active and visible all the time.

Yet, it is worth noting that despite the apparent attractiveness, parrot fish has a row of anatomical abnormalities, which can sometimes be lethal. For instance, in addition to infertility, the unusual mouth of this fish can open vertically only by a small angle, which first caused difficulties at feeding. The bright coloring is also artificial and gradually fades as you might see from my picture. Therefore, you should be prepared to buy specialized carotene feeds regularly. Moreover, despite the fact that our tank had the recommended capacity and filter, it usually had to be cleaned once a week, which was quite time-consuming.

In the end, fish moved to our friend's child. Heard that two of four are still alive.
