In truth, the parrot cichlid is a beauty, but only because it is extremely unique in looks.

I kept some of these with in a single species tank. They are compatible in a planted aquariums but ideally you want to keep them in a rock tank. As with most cichlids, should be kept in small shoals of no less than 6 - 8 fish, and they are quite prone to fighting one another.

If two fish should form a breeding pair, you should definitely move them to their own breeding tank.

They're easy to feed and also learn to recognise you at feeding time.
