I got a betta fish kind of for some comfort when I was living in an apartment that only allowed me to have my one dog. I was very used to having multiple pets to take care of, and I always thought betta fish were so interesting. I kept my fish solo in a medium sized tank and it was very easy to take care of. The pet store gave me a list of everything I needed for him, and he transitioned nicely to his new habitat. I must have done something right because he lived for a long 3 years! I'm not too sure of their average life span in captivity, but I wasn't expecting 3 years out of him, that's for sure. My betta made a nice addition to my somewhat dark and dreary apartment, and was very easy to take care of. I took him every time I moved and he was a lot of fun to have around! I would love to get another sometime in the near future and hopefully the next betta I own lives just as long. They bring a lot of enjoyment.
