Ocho was a long-lived Betta. I think. I've certainly never had a fish live so long!

How did I get her and why is her name so weird? I was at a fair with my friend and there was a ping pong toss game to win a goldfish. Since he paid the five dollars for the game, he named the goldfish Cinco. I went to the store, bought a fishbowl and all of the accessories, but when I got home from work the next day, Cinco had died. I was sad and I had all of this fish stuff, so I went back to the store to see about getting another goldfish.

That's when I saw her. This poor female betta, who was not nearly as ornate as all of the male bettas, was in a glorified 3 oz Tupperware container. She looked so sad. I knew that the likelihood of anyone choosing her was nil. So I did. She cost $8. That's how she got the name Ocho.

I know people will think I'm crazy, but I think she liked me. When I'd talk to her or sing anywhere near her bowl she'd swim up and watch me.

She was resilient, too. She moved across the country from Texas to Michigan by car on a four day trip. Pretty amazing for a little betta!

She celebrated her fourth birthday this year but passed away shortly after. She might be the most missed fish ever.
