Fish that outlasted expectations

I think every child has won a betta fish either at a carnival or an amusement park at the little stands. You would think fish would be easy to take care for but they are a lot more work than you think. Feeding them is the easiest part. Simply sprinkle some food in there once a day. It’s the water and tank maintenance that takes a lot of time. You need to make sure that the pH level of the water is the same when you clean out the tank so it doesn’t shock the fish. You will also need to clean it often. If you don't, algae will build up. Another thing to make sure of is that the tank isn’t in the sun; the sun will cause more algae to form. We had a betta fish that lasted for years, which is something unheard of in my household. We were shocked that it lived for so long. But he was a very easy pet to have and it was great to look at. I think parents and children should be told about the amount of work that goes into owning a fish.
