Meet Rouge!

After owning fish (and being largely unsuccessful), I wasn't excited to receive Rouge as a birthday gift. I get attached to my pets, and I hate when they pass away.

Rouge proved me wrong. First of all, he was very low maintenance. He lived in a large vase with a peace lily. I changed the water when it got dirty (maybe once every 2 months or less), and I had to change the lily 4 times over the course his life. Rouge ate beta pellets readily- feeding was never an option.

I'm proud to say that Rouge was with me for 7 years. He eventually died of (what I assume) was old age. He was an engaging fish, he used to watch the action around him from all sides of his vase. He knew when it was feeding time, and he was always waiting for breakfast in the same spot every morning.

My experience with my beta was a very positive one, but I doubt it is typical. Rouge was a wonderful fish. For anyone interested, I'd recommend the peace lily set up- it greatly reduces the cleaning!
