This is a great fish for kids or for adults that go out of town a couple days at a time or want a low maintenance fish. They do better and live a long time if they are in some sort of under gravel filter aquarium. Don't put these fish in little tiny bowls where they can hardly move. If you put them in at least a gallon aquarium, they are healthy, look better and swim around more. Just ask your local pet store for a gravel filter small aquarium. They will live for years. Any fish does better in an oxygenated aquarium (something with an under gravel filter or filter that circulates the air) and not just a bowl of water sitting there. These fish get so pretty, even the ones that have been abused by pet stores by putting them in those little cups will grow and have beautiful fins when they are treated right. I have had several of them and they have all lived long, the longest was five years. Don't put these guys in with other fish. And make sure they can not see their reflection in the glass. They will attack themselves.
