The Solitary Life of Luna

By

My grandmother gave me a betta, whom I called Luna, for my birthday. She knew that I liked animals. However, she also knew that I was busy with school and already had a dog to take care of. So, a betta seemed like the perfect gift. Betta fish, extremely aggressive, unable to get along even with their own kind, live a solitary life. I always felt kind of bad for Luna, swimming alone in her bowl. Although she was always pretty excited whenever it was food time. So maybe it wasn't as bad as it seemed. Having a betta is not like having a fish tank. The water is usually not cleaned with a filter. So, I always made sure that I occasionally poured some water out, put in clean water, and treated it. Some people seem to really bond with their bettas, but I never had that experience. For me, she always felt more like a plant than a pet.
