First and foremost, if you know nothing about this fish, I strongly advise doing some homework before you go get a betta. They should be kept in no less than 1 gallon of water, and there are considerations for raising them in a community tank.

Do not, I repeat, do not put male betta fish in the same tank as other bettas. They are exceedingly aggressive to their own kind, male or female, and the fish will kill each other if you do. Females can be kept together with certain measures taken, but males cannot.

That being said, they aren't a terribly difficult fish to keep, and they're absolutely stunning to look at. With unique coloration and those gorgeous flowing fins, they're really very attractive.
