The Unsinkable Snail!

I had apple snails for the majority of my childhood--I believe they came from the Wal-Mart fish tanks--along with a few simple guppies and goldfish. Even though the fish were more active and colorful, I always liked the snails best. The are completely self-reliant in a moderately populated tank; they feed upon the algae and detritus created by the other fish.

The fish never bothered them, and when they would inevitably go to that big aquarium in the sky (they don't live much more than two years) I was always left with a spiraled memento of our time together.
