Ducks can be the easiest waterfowl to raise for food, for eggs, or simply to look beautiful on your pond. They can be bold and brash, becoming pets that are quick to come to the hand for food, without being quite as pushy as a goose or a swan. Like chickens, they come out of the egg able to walk and ready to be imprinted on a mother who will teach them how to find food and shelter. Whether you choose a domesticated breed or a wild species, they are just plain fun to watch.

Don't shortchange your ducks when it comes to shelter. Without a hiding place, they are literally sitting ducks on a pond when a powerful bird like a Peregrine Falcon stops by.
