The Snapping and Alligator Snapping Turtles draw a great deal of attention due to their size, dinosaur-like appearance, and aggressive tendencies. But while Snappers are fascinating creatures, they are far too large and dangerous to be kept in most private collections. Captive Snapping and Alligator Snapping Turtles have lived for over 40 years and even bred in captivity, but they should only be considered by responsible, experienced adult keepers with the space to accommodate an 80-200 pound aquatic animal (and who do not have curious children, cats or other free-ranging “creatures”!).
