These alert, highly-active predators, bearing necks that are snake-like in both length and striking speed, are unique among all the world’s turtles. If provided with proper care and a diet comprised of whole fresh-water fishes, crayfish, and similar foods, most do quite well and may be expected to live for several decades. However, all are far more active than other turtles and need huge, well-filtered aquariums or pools. Also, their non-stop activity translates into huge appetites, so be prepared for hefty food bills!
