The term “Rear-Fanged” is applied to a variety of unrelated snakes. Many produce venom that targets specific prey species, and not all present a threat to people. However, the Boomslang and Twig Snake have caused numerous fatalities, and the venom of most is unstudied. Ranging in size from the 8 inch-long Crowned Snake to the gorgeous, 7-foot Mangrove Snake, Rear Fanged species are fascinating, and several are much in demand in certain snake-keeping circles.

Until we learn more about their venom, most Rear-fanged Snakes are best considered enjoyed in zoos. A doctor should be consulted before one acquires a Rear-Fanged Snake.
