Whether you are new to snake-keeping or have a lifetime of experience, this highly-diverse group will have a species (or, more likely, many!) to suit you. Several American species have introduced millions to the hobby, while others, such as the fossorial Trans-Pecos Rat Snake, are just now becoming popular. Among the Asian Rat Snakes we find some of the world’s most colorful serpents, such as the aptly-named Taiwan Beauty and Hundred-Flower Snakes. Most are hardy and moderate in size, but there are also delicate habitat specialists and some 12+ foot-long giants such as the Tropical Chicken Snake and Indian Rat Snake.
