Even by tropical marine fish standards, Butterflyfish are “ridiculously colorful”, so it’s no surprise that they are so highly-prized by aquarists. However, Butterflyfish should not be acquired before one has gained experience with hardier species, as they are quite demanding in terms of space, water quality and diet. Some feed only upon live coral polyps, while others use their long jaws to pluck tiny invertebrates from within coral crevices. But in a well-established reef tank, a pair (they form long-term pair bonds) makes a breath-taking display…definitely a goal to shoot for!
