Throwbacks to another era, the Bichirs and Reedfish are great favorites of “prehistoric fish” fans. Predatory air-breathers, they are best kept in single species tanks, as they take surprisingly-large meals and compete poorly with faster-swimming species. The well-named Dragon Bichir looks about as close as one can get to the real thing, while the eel-like Reedfish is, well, in a class all its own! Several species require a 55 gallon or larger tank, but all are well-worth it!
