The chunky green Amazon Parrots are the birds almost everyone thinks of when they first hear the word “parrot.” These rowdy, highly intelligent hookbills of the genus Amazona are found only in the New World in relatively tropical or subtropical habitat ranging from Mexico, the Caribbean islands, Central, and South America. They are highly regarded throughout the world for their ability to mimic the human voice, with many birds learning large vocabularies and/or human songs, sometimes even a bit of opera.
