A friend recommended we get a Shetland Sheepdog because he loved his dog and told us it was easy to train. He was right. Our Sheltie was one of the easiest dogs to train and learned basic obedience and tricks quickly. They have a thick coat and so they do need a bit more maintenance with regular bathing and brushing. Sheltie's can be a bit hyper and like to "herd" other animals or children by running circles around them. My kids loved playing in the yard with the dog. If I had to give a negative trait to this dog, I'd say they can be a bit yappy. However, since "Sheltie's are such quick learners, with gentle correction this issue can be solved easily. Great family dog.
