My rottie, Buster, was a pretty great dog. Very eager to please, didn't shed too much. I had him when I was pretty young, and my father handled a lot of the training, but very early on, Buster recognized the chain of command. He obeyed my commands as well as he did my father's, and once I got the hang of it, I was able to teach him a few things as well.
He was affectionate with people he knew, and pretty gentle, though he did require some coaching in this area as he wasn't aware of his size. He was good with my younger brothers when they were quite small, never showing signs of aggression towards them, though he had to be reined in a few times. He never nipped at anyone, but he did knock one of my brothers over a few times.
As he got older, he had issues with his hips as did the other members of his family (we were friends with the breeder). I'm not sure if this is a trait typical of the breed or exclusive to this bloodline. It was pretty heartbreaking to lose him, but it hasn't turned me off the idea of getting another Rottweiler someday.
