Nani isn't my first podengo. My first dog was also a podengo and when he died I was offered this baby girl. In fact podengos and mixed podengos are very common in Portugal in different sizes and with different kinds of coats. Podengos are very smart, active and fast learners. Althought they are small they won't turn their backs to a fight. Who cares if it's a robber, a grand danois or just the mailman?! They defend their house and their owners. When they ear a noise they will give the alert. Hunters usually like them because they are fast and they won't let any small animal run away. They can be quite adorable to you and your kids or babies, but don't ask them to like the cat, the rabbit or the rat. Nani tends to enjoy the company of our neighbour's chickens. Specially when they are dead. She just can't help it! It's in her nature. They are very easy to groom and they are tough dogs. I just go to the vet once a year because for a 9 year old girl she is in very good shape. A low maintenance loving dog! (except when she arrives home with a dead chicken!)
