From "Broken" to Loving Again

My miniature poodle was a rescue. Her last owner treated her horribly and my dad was the one to save her (directly, no shelter in between); as a result, she loved him. Enormously. In fact, I don’t think I ever saw a dog being so affectionate and loyal, even though I see a lot of affectionate and loyal dogs. She was also a pretty smart thing, pretty autonomous and all. She would not bark too much – nor growl, even if in the beginning she did not like me much, probably because I was a bit brusque as a kid – but she did bark around 4PM when she heard a bus passing in the street, which was the regular time where my schoolbus drove me home. She also was pretty low maintenance, in a way; she’d like to play, but in the morning she saw herself out as she went to the yard to pee and do her thing.

Only thing was that as a female, she had her period every month, which got a bit messy, and she was sort of moody then… I don’t want to perpetuate any stereotype here, but it is what it is. XD

Basically she was a cool dog, with the character of a lady. I just don’t know how much of it she owns to being a happily rescued dog vs being a toy poodle.
