When I was 13 my parents finally let me get a dog, and Lucy, my miniature, apricot colored, poodle was from then on always a comforting presence. She was great to have around the house because her shedding was very minimal, a haircut and a nail trim every few months were enough to keep her clean and simply groomed. As an adolescent dog she did bark quite a bit, but quieted down in her old age. Lucy was certainly a lap dog, always wanting to be curled up next to someone. She was great around both kids and older people, able to run in the yard with my nephew and go on walks but also move at a slower pace when grandparents came to visit. Though she did struggle with dental problems, her affectionate manner and long life-span (she lived to 17!) made Lucy a wonderful addition to our family.
