Patches was a great guard dog. One time we were trying to figure out why she wanted to go outside every day at the same time. We figured out it was because she was chasing the poor mailman. She and our other dog, a German police, played a game where she would yap up a storm at the repair men and such, and when they came to the door, our ,German police dog would step up behind her and woof. (They frequently fled.) She was a great companion to the entire family. I'm not sure she would have liked small children, however. She was a bit temperamental and could sometimes be snippy, especially in her old age. Papillons require lots of grooming, as they have lots of long hair.
