Benson is a delight even at 15! He was easy to housetrain and he is so quiet! He barks when he sees someone walk by our house but usually is very quiet. His grooming at home is just a quick shampoo; we take him to a local groomer about 5 times each year for a good cut and shaping.
He is a great breed for children, although when he was very tiny we had to watch closely how the kids played with him. His dental care has been the one issue that I would say has caused the most grief. (Maltese of the small breed are known to have issues with their teeth.)
He had a severe incident when he had an upset stomach once. He had chewed at the corner of a rug and ingested an 8" string. He ended up with stomach surgery to remove it and some grass that clogged his intestines. When a dog of any breed is sick they will tend to eat grass, lick the carpeting, in an attempt to soothe themselves so they need watched over very closely.
Our Benson is a part of our family and we are dreading the fast approaching day that we no longer have him, but he has been such a source of love and fun that we would not have it any other way!
