Rula the German Shepherd

Rula was my grandmothers' dog, and I quite literally grew up with her; my parents have some great baby pictures of me together with her as a puppy.

She was a German Shepherd, and one of the best dogs I have ever known. She was incredibly friendly, a great watch dog and protector, and smart as a whip. I remember she had one really funny quirk where whenever she would lay down, she would tuck her tail in between her legs, as if to 'cover up' so to speak. Everyone joked about what a lady she was.

She also had another funny quirk; her yawn sounded uncannily like someone saying the word 'hello'. I remember one time my little sister and I were visiting my grandmothers' house, and my sister invited a friend over. Jokingly, we were telling her that Rula could talk, and she didn't believe us. We called Rula over and told her to tell Allison hello, and lo and behold she actually did her yawn right at that exact moment.

You could have picked that little girls' jaw up off the floor, hahaha.

I recommend German Shepherds to anyone who wants a great overall dog, as long as you are comfortable working with a larger animal and can do so safely.
