Beautiful Stray - Came to Stay

Shep was a wild stray dog that came into our lives when she began hanging out with our beagle mix, Shadow. She was a beautiful, though narrow-bodied, German Shepherd mix. I suspect that she may have been part coyote.

It took months of talking, not looking at her, to gain her trust enough to touch her - but after that, she was ours. She trusted me, and a couple of family members, but was frightened of those she did not know. She loved us completely, though!

One of the breakthrough moments was when I was hanging out in the side yard with her. I was leaning over the fence when I felt a couple of light taps on my shoulders. Turning around, I was surprised to see Shep on her hind legs just behind me! She'd snuck up and "tagged" me on the shoulders. I believe those were affectionate 'pats' from the dog who had been so wary of humans.

I was sad to need to find her a new home, but I was moving three states away and could not take her with me. She was beautiful, and very very sweet.
